After recently watching On the Waterfront ( directed by Elia Kazan ) I have deduced that this film is the most quintessential rebel flick we've seen all year. The story kicks off with Terry Malloy ( Marlon Brando ) unknowingly aiding the murder of a big-mouthed dockworker. We learn that the person responsible for this travesty was mob-influenced union boss, Johnny Friendly ( Lee J. Cobb ). Terry's brother Charlie ( Rod Steiger ) happens to be in good ties with Friendly, and convinces him to literally do nothing and get paid in return for keeping his mouth shut. Unfortunately this turns out to be harder than he imagined when he falls for local sweetheart, Edie Doyle ( Eva Marie Saint ), who happens to be the sister of the guy Terry helped assassinate.
I have to say that this movie would not be as groundbreaking if it were not for Marlon Brando. His personality and mannerisms really made the character of Terry Malloy and achieved rebel Epic-ness.
